Flying Teapot "Of the Year"
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, September 05th, 2010
Last time on Fetch Quest, Nephilim Lachesis was the victim of the mother of all mistaken identities when Rabi & Darius, two thugs who ran afoul of Saffron a ways back, kidnapped her thinking SHE was the tomboy princess. Despite Lionel's effort, they managed to get away, but now Saffron herself is on the case with Felicia in tow and Ambrosia flying not far behind. The hiatus is over! Chapter 11 of Fetch Quest is now released!

(Oops! Knew I forgot to post somewhere.)
...I think Page 131 of "Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together" said it best when it said in big ass text...OH GOD WHY.
Well, on the plus side to all this, Fetch Quest: Chapter 11 is two pages away from being done! Here is the third and last preview before it goes up to get you excited.

Here is another preview of Fetch Quest Ch. 11 for you. In time I'll make another preview before the chapter is released.

DEAR. LORD. Has it really been over a month? REALLY?
As Fetch Quest will be updated by the chapter, I felt it necessary to alleviate the career suicide by posting previews every now and again as I work on the pages. You can see the first one here.
Also, commissions are full at the moment, but you can see the progress of not only the commissions, but everything else I'm up to on my To-Do List at DeviantArt.com.

Okay, so you all saw this coming a mile away, but if I had my way, I woulda thrown you SUCH a curveball. XD Maybe I'll draw that as a silly random one day.
And stick around. Mike Renner has an important announcement to make.
BEGONE "OF THE YEAR", BITCH
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, May 09th, 2010
A lot of "More Guts Than Brains" being shown in this page. What these sensible folk have to deal with, uh?
I'm still experimenting with the traditional inks that go into Photoshop, but I think I FINALLY found something I can stick with, so inconsistency may not be a problem anymore. And I know I should really be experimenting with my own work and not Fetch Quest, but all things considered, I think Gobber from "How To Train Your Dragon" said it best when he said "I believe in learning on the job".

Play it High "Of the Year"

Uh-oooooh. Is the main character gonna have to beat somebody's ass? I THINK SHE IIIIIIIIIIS.
I dunno why it is, maybe it's because she's usually leaving the scene out for whatever reason or because the focus is on other people at the time, but for some strange reason, it always seems odd to me whenever I actually get the chance to draw Saffron into the comic. How can this be, SHE'S THE FRIGGIN' MAIN CHARACTER. XD Well, at least from this point on she'll have some time to shine, but I really hope she doesn't get pushed to the side in favor of anyone else once that happens.

Hmm. It would appear that these two may be a bit more formidable than their altercation with Saffron would have indicated.
Good gravy, I can't believe we're on the sixth page of the chapter already. A little bit of action sure helps to speed things up, it seems!
Welcome to MY LAND "OF THE YEAR"

Contrary to popular belief, THIS is the reason the chapter's called "Abduction", not the whole My Size Felicia debacle. XD
Lines are a little thick on this page, I was still trying to find a happy place with my microns. It looks much better on the next pages, I thinks.
Welcome to IRAN "Of the Year"

So Felicia's been run ragged after being made into Nephilim's own personal paper doll. That professor at the Academy of Magic DID warn her that she'd have to put up with this sort of thing when she took the job. And this is just with Neph, the supposed sensible one. Imagine a day on the town with SAFFRON.
FELICIA WHITEWIND. WHAT A TROOPER...AH hey, wait a minute, haven't I seen those two from somewhere before?
GOLDEN AWA-WA-WA-WA-WA "OF THE YEAR"
posted by Alan Solivan | Wednesday, April 14th, 2010
The answer to Felicia's question is simple: Neph's got the artist on her side. WAHAHAHAHAAAAA
On an artistic note, you may notice a difference in quality from this page on, if not with the lineart at the least. See, having no car and resorting to my own two feet and public transportation to get where I need to go every day means that I have less time than I did before. And I never had that much to begin with. So I've been experimenting with ways to get pages done faster without forsaking quality. I remembered how I was able to crap out SPC:COLD pages in a relatively quick pace because I did them mostly traditionally, so I figured if I inked the pages with microns like in the old days, it would help.
It has, but time is still an issue. Now I'm working at my job more than ever, i.e. having even LESS time to work on art projects. OH, the woes of the common man. XD

Am I adding IRL cameos to establishing shots AGAIN? I think I AAAAAAAAAAAAM...
Onna's, huh? It's not so uncommon. Every day on the way to work, I pass a woman's clothing store called Chico's. Quite odd. XD

Double digits! OOOH OOOH OOOOOOOOOH! XD
Felicia, being the meganekko she is, is fun to pick on sometimes, especially when paired with Fetch Quest's own Barbie. Such pickery begets cover pages like this.
Oh, and I won't lie. I totally had the wrestler insignias on those Wrestlemania XXVI Match-Up screens in mind when I handled the Fetch Quest logo and chapter title. TO BEEEE YOURSEEELF IS AAALL THAT YOU CAN DOOOOOO
One last thing. Going back to DA now that I know that I'm apparently protected from whatever virus nonsense that's been happening over there. Went there accidentally a few times and nothing happened. Either because I have a subscription or because I use Firefox. HM
Delicious Failure "Of the Year"
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, April 04th, 2010
Isn't that the worst feeling ever? Thinking yourself to be pretty good at something only to get utterly decimated by someone who's much better about it. At least Saffron's not the kind of person to brag about it...er...at least I don't THINK she is...at least she hasn't done so yet...to Lionel's face?
I DUNNO, SHE'S NOT MY CHARACTER XD
(I swear to God, the "Of the Year" title for today is an absolutely hilarious coinkey-dink.)
Oh, one last thing. There's been a lot of virus talk about DeviantArt these days. I'm sure it's the ads going hooligan on those who don't have a subscription, but I don't believe in taking chances, for it always ends in tears for me...like Jeff Hardy, but that's neither here nor there.
My point is that if you guys watch me over there, I'm going to be away for a while until this whole thing calms down, I get some confirmation that it's just a scare, SOMETHING. My laptop is the only computer I have and even if I DID have a desktop, not having a laptop would cripple my productivity horribly and that's the last thing I need right now. So if any of you start wondering why my submission activity has gone non-existent, there's your answer.

MY MOST EVER "OF TH' YEAR"
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, March 28th, 2010
Once again, creative license takes the wheel. Originally, the script called to jump right into the page that will come next update. However, I felt it was necessary to give a bit of an "OH S**T" moment to, as Renner said, remind people how obscenely strong Saffron is, as she hasn't had much of a chance to show it, especially after coming back into the limelight.
Lionel may be an example right now, but rest assured he'll get his time to shine. In fact, moments like this have a tendency of helping build characters, but that's another story for another day.

Metal Zeroes "Of the Year"
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, March 21st, 2010
Thursday may get me, but always bet on Monday! XD
Action! Yanno, one thing that I've always wanted to emulate and have only pulled off successfully a few times during the days of Sweet Revenge are those Rurouni Kenshin impact splatters, as I like to call them. They usually happen whenever something, be it a weapon or a limb, connect with another weapon or body part. The amount of splatter is usually a tell as to the strength going into the blow or how many people are being decimated in the case of a multi-man melee. As seen with the first panel, I tried to emulated it with the point of contact without going overboard. I think it worked out because it just didn't look as impactful without the splatter.

ELECTORIAL COMMUNICATION "OF THE YEAR"
posted by Alan Solivan | Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Whoopsie! Well, part of what Renner said is true, I DID forget that we're still doing the whole two page thing. The other half of it is that after finishing the demo for the last page of this chapter, I was so dead tired that I didn't think of anything but bed.
BUT! It's still Thursday. I coulda updated at 11:59 p.m tonight and it'd still count (Plus, it got Renner off'a his butt. I WIN EVERY TIME XD).
Enough about that, though. Commentary! As Renner said, we realize it's been a while since anyone got around to killing each other in this comic. Oh sure, we can blame the update schedule, true as it may be, but the one thing that everyone's gotta recall is that Fetch Quest, on the whole, was initially scripted to come out in chapters, not pages as I can only afford to do. So forgive us if things take a little too long to happen.
But I think "The Dark Knight" has taught us that even a conversation can be epic if that conversation is well performed.
TERMINATION "OF THE YEAR"
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, March 14th, 2010
Eh? Action coming up? Oh, but it's been so long! Well, the following pages (along with chapters, but that's neither here nor there) are the main reason why I suggested we go back to the two page schedule, so hopefully you'll see why exactly I think such.

WHATSOEVER "OF THE year"
posted by Alan Solivan | Sunday, March 07th, 2010
LORD, she is nosy. Nephilim being the "Barbie Girl" of the comic (so far, anyway), I took the time to stick her in something else for the occasion. The script didn't call for it, BUT! 'EY. That's what creative license is for.

Looking back at the comments for the last page, I can safely say that you lot are sick. Why can't you be classy? Like me? And take a page like this? And make an "ASSASSIN!!" joke? XD
